The Joys of Wiki?

Just discovered how easy it is to create a wiki. So I did it. And here's what I did:

The English department at Branford High School also happens to be in the process of developing an honors option for our 10th grade heterogeneously-grouped English classes. Right now every sophomore takes English 10. Next year, we hope to offer students in those classes the option of earning an honors distinction for the class. This would mean they would get an honors designation on their transcripts, a nod to those parents and students who feel they are slighted by not being able to take an honors English course until Junior year. Our principal has given us release time to draft a proposal and plan for implementing it in 2007-2008. Here's what we came up with, using wikispaces.

Check it out, and if you have any suggestions or questions, I'd love to hear them.

Hi M,

Nice looking wiki. I'm curious--how receptive are your colleagues to even trying to use wikis for staff projects like this?

Judging from your history and discussions, I'd guess you were frustrated.

So how do we get our colleagues ot put a toe in, and discover it's neither cold nor deep?

Keep writing and stay in touch. I blogrolled you at my Beyond School, by the way.

This is my first venture with a wiki and I haven't broadened it beyond a few colleagues. There are a few who show interest, but little inclination to dive right in. As a department head I've taken the philosophy that I'm going to do things like this and try to embed them enough so they don't seem daunting. The reality is that using a wiki or blog or anything new takes time to experiment - not everyone likes to do that surprisingly!!

My immediate goal is to get comfortable with some of the new web 2.0 media and try to slowly entice fellow teachers to climb in...

Thanks for your comments,
